Being a volunteer firefighter is one of the most rewarding things you can experience. Although it does take dedication and sometimes interferes with the course of your normal routine, the advantages you gain from volunteering are incalculable. The fire company is always looking for new members to join. Take a moment to read through what it takes to become a firefighter. If you are interested please stop by our main firehouse on Route 202 in Thiells any Monday between 7pm and 9pm.
| Requirements for Membership: |
|
•Must be atleast 16 years old (under 18 requires parental consent)
•Firefighter I State Fire Course - 78 hours of instruction at the Rockland County Fire Training Center taken over the course of a few months •Bloodborne Pathogens Class; OSHA requirement - 3 hour in-house class •Respond to 25% of all fire calls for a one year period •Attend atleast 6 out of 12 monthly company meetings for a one year period (Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month) •Annual Inspection - Once a year in October the department holds an annual inspection of equipment and uniforms which lasts approximately 1 hour |

These are not required, but participation is highly encouraged |

•Fire Calls - Although probationary fireman are only required to make 25% of the total calls for the year,
as with all members it is encouraged to respond to as many fire calls as you can. (We don't expect you
to make all of them!)
•Monday Night Drills - Each Monday (except holidays) from approximately 7:00pm - 9:30pm the department holds weekly truck maintenance and equipment checks as well as drills on various firefighting techniques •Other Drills - On occasion drills are held on weekends and other weekdays in addition to the Monday Night Drills •Parades - The fire company marches in approximately 3 - 5 local parades each year (Uniforms are provided to you at no cost) •Fundraising - Events are held throughout the year to raise funds for the fire company such as road collections, wing nights, raffles, etc. |
